We had a busy weekend! Didn’t get a bit of yard work done, but we had some fun. Several Tulsa Wedding Show exhibitors had events and they were really fun. On Friday night we finally got to visit the Salsa Nation. Hugo Gutierrez is a wonderful Latin dance teacher and also owns Lions Road Studios. So, of course, he had his sound equipment set up, lights and all, to give lessons. We came for the VIP portion, only costs $10, and got lessons in salsa, merenge and a little cha cha. It was so much fun, even when were tripping over our own feet! So don’t expect any pictures because they would be too embarrassing. But besides being fun it was great exercise. Hugo (pronounced Oogo) does this once a month so check his website for the schedule. You’ll love it!

Then on Saturday night we went to a tasting for Chefs on the Run. Really, Chris cannot be beat – his food and presentation are spectacular. Out of the 6 or so tables full of food that Chris laid out, all of which was delicious, the carrot salad impressed me the most. Hard to believe, after all the succulent meats and dips and fruits . . . . but it was just unexpected and good. And you can always count on him to have plenty. If you want a caterer who knows every aspect of the business and can be counted on to follow through, check him out. He is doing it again on March 10th. BRIDES and anyone with a special event coming up, you owe it to yourself to taste Chris’ food. Get info. on his website. We also saw Rene from Mom and Me Events, Gregg and Richard from Infinity Music and Shannon from Ann’s Bakery. Always great to spend time with wedding people.

Kind of a pet peeve of mine that it’s hard for a bride to find a quality shoe to wear on her wedding day. You shouldn’t have to resort to ballet flats or sequined flip flops to be comfortable and look smashing through the wedding and the reception. So I was excited to get an email from DSW yesterday announcing their bridal line. Looks like it will fill the bill. And they have some great shoes for bridesmaids and MOB’s, too! I’m talking to them about being in the Show. Wouldn’t it be fun to be able to pick out your shoes at The Tulsa Wedding Show along with everything else?

I saw an article in the USA Weekend magazine that was really interesting. I didn’t know the status that marriage affords Haitian women, but it gives them respectability in the community. People begin calling them Madame and it makes them an accepted part of society. The problem is that so many of them cannot afford to get married, even to buy the marriage license. That’s where Diane Cornelius, owner of Ruth’s Bridal Shop in Lexington, KY comes in. A friend approached her in 2008 about taking her unsold gowns to NW Haiti to help out. Since then she has dressed 109 brides and is helping to set up a gown rental business there. Kudos to you, Diane! You can visit her website to find out more and to donate.
